Raleigh, NC - The Pantry, Inc (PTRY) honored Army Staff Sgt. Fitts in a ceremony at a store located along Capital Blvd. in Raleigh Saturday as part of the "Salute our Troops" program. The Wake Forest Rolesville High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors to open the ceremony while Miss Coastal Carolina, Mary Catherine Tucker sang the National Anthem. Staff Sgt. Fitts has served our country with valor and dignity in many different settings.
His first deployment was an 18-month tour to Afghanistan in 2003 – 2004. His most recent deployment was 2009 – 2010, to Baghdad, Iraq.
Staff Sgt. Fitts knows more about paying respect to the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces than any of us here can possibly imagine. As a member of the Army National Guard Honor Guard that serves at military funerals, Staff Sgt. Fitts has participated in 4000 burial missions – Honoring veterans from the Greatest Generation and historic wars to members of the armed forces who have paid the ultimate price in recent conflicts.
